Rush Limbaugh Touts Benefits of E-Cigarettes, Slams FDA

Conservative radio host and political commentator Rush Limbaugh spoke about the benefits of e-cigarettes while pointing out the bullying tactics of the FDA, Big Pharma and Big Tobacco on his August 25 radio show.

After being spotted recently on his ditto-cam apparently smoking, Rush responded last week to his listeners that he was in fact using a Volcano e-cigarette, not smoking a tobacco cigarette. On today’s show, he said that the Aug 25 Wall Street Journal article was an example of how he is on the cutting edge, and how his mention of a new technology immediately brings all sorts of attention to it. Holding up his e-cigarette, he said,

“This happens to be one from Volcano, in Hawaii… they’re made up of three parts, an atomizer, a battery and a cartridge. Now the cartridge has liquid, has nicotine in it, and when you suck on it the battery powers the atomizer and turns the liquid into a vapor…”

Rush then began talking about the FDA’s bullying of e-cigarette companies,

“…lo and behond, look at this, Wall Street Journal: “E-Cigarettes Spark New Smoking War”.

“It’s all about how the FDA wants to… in fact, they have been intercepting shipments of these products, the ones that are made overseas, as they come in.

“A lot of people now want to have the FDA inspect these, conduct trials and tests and make sure they’re safe, and regulate them because they’re quote unquote a drug delivery system, i.e. nicotine in the cartridge.

“…Now who could possibly be behind trying to shut down the e-cigarette business? Well, yeah, Big Tobacco could be behind it, and maybe, Big Drug? I mean, Big Drug makes nicotine gum and other products. So who can maybe be behind this?”

Rush Limbaugh could prove to be a great advocate in the David and Goliath fight that many small e-cigarette companies face.

The FDA wants to classify e-cigarettes as a drug delivery device, lumping them in with nicotine patches, nicotine gum, and other smoking cessation devices. If the FDA gets their way, the resulting lengthy and costly trials could be the death of the burgeoning industry, or at the least force “vapers” (as e-cigarette users call themselves) to go underground.

The company that Rush Limbaugh uses, Volcano E-Cigs, is one of many companies that does not claim to be providing a product to quit smoking, however. Plainly included on Volcano’s homepage is a disclaimer stating that their products are not marketed as a cessation device, but instead are a recreational alternative to traditional tobacco cigarettes. Many other e-cigarette companies are also very careful not to claim that their products are designed to help you quit smoking, however after reading the forums at Volcano and also at Vaportalk.com, it is evident that tens of thousands of people have made the complete switch from tobacco cigarettes to e-cigarettes in the past three years.

With battle lines being clearly drawn, the outcome of this pending fight is still very uncertain. What is certain, however, is that the e-cigarette community now has a very powerful ally by the name of Rush Limbaugh.

There are many methods to quit smoking but only a few work. The patch may work for a while but sooner or later the smoker returns to holding the familiar cigarette that is part of the habit. Intellicig is the first electronic cigarette company to partner with sales and distribution experts Innzone Ltd who work closely with major newspaper wholesalers Menzies Distribution and Smiths News to get upcoming products on the shelves in convenience stores.

Innzone will market and sell the electronic cigarettes on Intellicig’s behalf, targeting 34,000 independent newsagents and convenience stores in 32 regions over a 12 month period.

David Newns, commercial director at Intellicig, said: “We are thrilled to have clinched the deal with Innzone and are looking forward to reaping the benefits of this exclusive partnership.

“We believe our electronic cigarettes really are the best on the market and signing a deal with UK’s largest convenience distributor and getting the recognition we deserve is a great accomplishment. We’re delighted Innzone chose us to trade with.”

Innzone wanted to ensure that when the time came to distribute electronic cigarettes, they would be representing the best on the market.

Phillip Glyn, managing director at Innzone Ltd, said: “Last year we were inundated with calls from electronic cigarette companies and it was this influx that made us realise that electronic cigarettes were going to be big in the UK.”

Not wanting buy on impulse, Phillip tested customer responsiveness with a product trial and decided to invest in electronic cigarettes after they proved so popular.

“Intellicig stood out from other companies for one reason; we know exactly what is in their electronic cigarettes, which is very reassuring,” said Phillip.

“We guarantee quality control for all our products and as Intellicig’s products have undergone intensive research, testing and stringent quality control, this makes them distinct from their competitors.”

Once a retailer buys a batch of Intellicig, Innzone will send out the product with a digital frame to advertise the product, posters and leaflets to display in the shop, and will make payment through their newspaper wholesaler, whether it be Menzies Distribution or Smiths News.

If the retailer wishes to re-order they can either contact Innzone or one of Intellicig’s agents who will personally visit the retailer.

Howdy there folks. Are you a looking to buy an e-cigarette? Well, if you are, let me introduce myself. My name is John Jablonski, and I am the owner of an e-cigarette company. I would really like you to buy your next e-cigarette from my company. My e-cigarettes are pretty good and competitively priced. But, the thing that sets my e-cigarettes apart from the others is that they are not appealing to children.

You see, many people in my industry have been criticized by some anti-smoking advocates. Now, these anti-smoking advocates have many gripes about the e-cigarette. Chief among their complaints is that the e-cigarette is appealing to children because e-cigarette companies offer liquid nicotine in many tasty flavors, like chocolate, cherry, orange, and vanilla. Since children like these flavors, they will be attracted to using the e-cigarette, so goes the anti-smoking advocates reasoning.

Now, I am completely opposed to children using the e-cigarette in any manner. My product is only for adults. So they won’t appeal to children, my e-cigarette company will not offer any fruity flavors or other tasty flavors such as chocolate or vanilla. Accordingly, my company will offer flavors that are completely unappealing to children. My company offers flavors such as “turd”, “body odor”, “sweaty sock”, “gasoline”, and “urine”. I think that no child would like any of the flavors that my company offers. Accordingly, I can sell my e-cigarette with a clean conscience.

All right, the foregoing is ridiculous. But, I have felt the need to fight fire with fire, or, in this case, ridiculousness with ridiculousness as a counter to some of the anti-e-cigarette nuttery that has been perpetrated by some anti-smoking advocates.

Although there are some legitimate concerns about the e-cigarette, I personally find the argument that e-cigarettes are appealing to children to be rather lame. If you don’t like the e-cigarette, then say so, but don’t try to drag children into it. That is nothing but a cheap emotional ploy to get people to side with you.

The fact of the matter is that adults also enjoy pleasant flavors as well as children do. If e-cigarette companies can lure adults away from smoking real cigarettes by offering pleasant tasting flavors that, in my view, is a good thing. Their is little doubt that the e-cigarette is a better and healthier alternative to real cigarettes.

In addition, the anti-smoking zealots, who complain about the tasty flavors offered by e-cigarette companies, seem to woefully ignorant about cigarette smokers. Most smokers enjoy the taste of cigarettes. Getting them to quit real cigarettes is much easier if they can be offered an alternative that provides them with same taste as real cigarettes. Or better yet, offer them something that taste even better than the real cigarette to get them to quit.

Of course, I am not trying to minimize the seriousness of children using e-cigarettes. Children should never be allowed to use them, period. I completely support punishing vendors who sell e-cigarettes to children. But, when you argue to ban the e-cigarette because some children might be tempted to use them, you, in my view, over state your case. Adults should have the choice to use the e-cigarette. And, if nice tasting flavors can induce some adults to quit real cigarettes for the e-cigarette, then I hope the e-cigarette companies will come out with even more flavors that smokers will enjoy.

Tobacco companies won’t admit that smoking is an addiction but everyone knows it is so. And it is an addiction that’s powerful enough to keep millions smoking tobacco and jeopardizing their health. The tar in cigarette smoke is a carcinogen and tobacco contains many other harmful substances.

For those who like the comforting glow of burning tobacco when they inhale, those e-smoking products even have a little light that simulates the glow when you inhale. Not necessary as far as I am concerned, but the makers apparently thought it added a nice touch.

So the idea here is to simulate smoking, down to getting that nice nicotine rush and the smoke, without actually burning tobacco with all its associated negative health aspects. But if there is still smoke, isn’t that bad for you anyway? Well, it’d probably be better not to smoke at all, but if tar from smoking is the primary concern, there is none.

How does one use electronic smoking products? Do you just flip out an e-pack, smoke and then discard the cigarette butt? Nope; it’s all different. Since the e-cigarette has a rechargeable battery and a liquid container for the smoking liquid, you use it over and over again. In that sense it is more like a pipe where you don’t discard the pipe but simply put in more tobacco.

Likewise, you don’t discard electronic smoking products; you simply put in a new e-cartridge and occasionally recharge the battery (there’s even a USB-eCig that doesn’t need a battery; you just plug it into a USB port on your computer).

Do all e-cigarettes (there are also “e-MiniCig” tiny cigarettes) taste the same? They don’t. There are a couple of dozen tastes to select from, including those of some leading cigarette brands, and there are also different nicotine levels, from none at all to extra-high.

There is no doubt that electronic smoking cigarettes require getting used to, and the technology is probably still in its infancy, but smokers who are really concerned about tar may want to take a look at e-cigs.

And this message should be spread as far and wide as possible in order to overcome the fog of confusion about smoking which exists in many parts of the world.
